During one of your shows, you were scolding someone about Social Security and/or Medicare and basically accused them of Chicken Littling the issue, minimizing the iminent/looming crises inherent in the design of these pay-as-you-go, glorified Ponzi schemes.

The country will never begin the necessary reforms with regard to these programs unless and until they are told the truth. The programs have been pilfered by devious and deceptive practices to mask true budget deficits by “borrowing” the cash in the “trust” funds for what amounts to IOUs. Those IOUs are now coming due and must be paid back in cash, which the government gets by printing it, or by confiscating it from its citizens (euphemism: taxes).

If you look at these programs, and then look into the programs implemented in Texas and Chile, coupling that with the problems with corporate pensions, you will understand that a compulsory, private savings account that the individual owns, but can not touch is the only viable solution. Some call this privatization. But isn’t it our money in the first place?! Why shouldn’t I be responsible for my own retirement? And help those who are less inclined to prepare for their retirement by education and compulsory savings.

Now I completely agree that when we are younger, our minds, priorities and spending go elsewhere. That is why the program I advocate is compulsory. But imagine if you accumulated 15% (about what the system confiscates now) of your lifetime earnings in a setaside account that you could not touch, compounding interest from say age 18 till the time you are going to retire. Think what wealth that is! What private wealth that would be! Think you could afford to retire? Think you could afford health care premiums?

To think that all the money my mom had put into the system that when she died of lung cancer at 60 went somewhere else in the government is just one example of the inequity in the system. That money should have been hers, and gone to her heirs. (This sounds completely selfish, though it is not my point. I am just aware of how it may come across). And to think my fate (and yours) with regard to these programs is in the hands of 535 congressmen and 100 senators. Do you REALLY trust them?! REALLY?! I do not.

It seems to me that you could have the argument that Adam Sandler is a great actor with someone that believes that Adam Sandler sucks, and both be right. He can be one thing to one person, and completely something else to somebody else.

Let’s look at an extreme example:

On audio recordings left for her family, police and gun range owners, Moore apologized for what she had done, but said God commanded her to do it. She said God made her the ‘Antichrist,’ and that she must die to save her boyfriend, son and the world from violence, and her mother, father and brother from hell.

“You have a gun, you can do it,” she said God told her while she was in a mental hospital. “I have to die and go to hell so there can be a thousand years peace on Earth.”

Her fate made no sense to Moore.
